Hello and Welcome

So what is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner?

Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioners (FNTPs) are part of the alternative, holistic health community and are trained by the Nutritional Therapy Association to use a foundational and holistic approach in assessing imbalances in the body. The training is evidence and science-based and relies on the body's innate ability to heal itself. We seek the root cause of issues using the six nutritional foundations which are diet, digestion, fatty acid balance, hydration, mineral balance and blood sugar regulation.

FNTPs believe that a whole food, nutrient-dense, real food diet is the foundation of health. Our bodies are designed to intake healthy food in order to obtain the nutrients necessary for a vital life. However, if our diet does not contain enough healthy nutrients or is unable to absorb the nutrients, health will suffer, and sickness or illness will eventually follow. This can take the form of decreased energy, hormone imbalances, digestive problems, autoimmune conditions, mental health issues, skin issues and even weight gain.

FNTPs respect the uniqueness of each client and strive to help reverse the negative effects of the modern diet by identifying and correcting imbalances. With each client, the goal is to balance the six foundations of health, and, through balancing these systems in the body and eating a whole food, nutrient dense diet, we can bring homeostasis back to the body.

Almost every condition and organ system in the body can benefit from Nutritional Therapy including but not limited to:

  • IBS and other digestion issues like gas, bloating, and constipation

  • High blood pressure

  • Pre-diabetes and diabetes

  • Autoimmune conditions

  • Hyper- and Hypo thyroidism

  • Depression and anxiety

  • Food intolerances

  • Hormonal imbalances/PMS/ Menopause sypmtoms

  • Inflammation, arthritis, and joint pain

  • Allergies and sinus issues

  • Weight loss

  • Chronic Fatigue

  • Insomnia

  • Dysbiosis/Candida

  • Blood sugar imbalance

  • Acid reflux/GERD

  • Lack of energy and fatigue

And what is Muscle Response Testing?

Muscle Response Testing (MRT) is a safe, non-invasive system of analyzing your body to determine the underlying causes of any non-optimum conditions or ill health. There are two key parts to MRT: the identifying of the imbalance and the use of nutritional formulas to improve it.

Identifying the imbalance:

MRT analyzes different areas on the surface of the body, called dermatomes, that relate to the state of health in every organ, and the central nervous system's ability to regulate the functions of that organ. Each area that gives a response represents a specific organ that is not receiving adequate signals from the nervous system resulting in reduced or improper function of that organ system. By testing these dermatomes, I have a system of monitoring your body at each visit. This system is extremely accurate and allows me to identify exactly what the body needs, and how well we are meeting that need.

The process involves me contacting the areas on the surface of the body with my hand. I have you lay down and extend your arm straight up perpendicular to the body. I will begin by testing the strength of the arm. After establishing a baseline of strength, I will press on the various dermatomes and retest the strength of the extended arm. If the organ being contacted is weak or suffering an imbalance, the nervous system will reduce the feedback to the extended arm, and the arm will weaken.

Personalized nutritional formulas:

If you have an organ system that tests weak, I then test specific nutrients in the form of whole food supplements against those weak areas to find the ones that bring the organ back to strength. When I have found the correct nutritional supplements, I then work out a personalized nutritional supplement program based on your body's individual needs. By following the program as precisely as possible, you will be well on you way to restoring normal function and improving your health.

Important Note:

Nutritional Therapy and MRT are NOT a quick fix. Rather we are rebuilding the body from the inside out which takes time. You are addressing your health from a cellular level without bandaid fixes. There are no short cuts in identifying and correcting root causes and correcting imbalances. However, the rewards are amazing.
